Nikolaos Nikolaou

Professor, Director of the Laboratory of Viticulture of the School of Agriculture, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

 

N. A. Nikolaou was born in 1953. He obtained the B.Sc. degree in Agronomy from the School of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1976. He also obtained the M. Sc. Degree (DEA) in Viticulture in 1989 from the ¡¢Enology and Viticulture¢¢ department of the Agronomical National Superior School of Montpellier (ENSAM FRENCH), and the PhD degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1991.

 

In 1980 he worked as Scientific Collaborator in the School of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1992 he was elected Lecturer in the same School, in 1996 assistant professor, in 2001 associate professor and in 2004 professor. He is currently, professor at the school of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he is engaged in research, lectures (author of books and lectures notes in Greek) laboratory courses and supervision of Master and Doctorate dissertations in Viticulture.

 

Among his scientific interest are grapevine improvement and valorization of new hybrids, grapevine nutrition and root symbiotic relations. He is the author of more than 100 papers in scientific journals and conferences. He is permanent reviewer of many international journals and reviewer of international research projects. Prof. Nikolaou has been invited speaker in international conferences and to gave seminars for the postgraduate students of master degree in Oenology and Viticulture on ¡terroir and vartieties of Greece .

 

Prof. Nikolaou he is currently director of the Laboratory of Viticulture of the School of Agriculture and responsible of the Ampelographical collection of the experimental farm. He is also delegate of Greece in COST action FA 1003 (East – West Collaboration for Grapevine Diversity Exploration and Mobilization of Adaptive Traits for Breeding).
